Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski didn’t have much of an update on Michael Penix Jr. immediately after Sunday’s loss to the Ravens after the quarterback suffered a rib injury late in the fourth quarter.
Stefanski said he expects more in the coming days after Penix undergoes imaging.
Penix was hit hard on the sideline on a sack as the Falcons went through a two-minute drill with the game tied at 23-23.
As Penix took the field for a play, he returned to throw an incomplete pass on third down before Atlanta punted.
“He tried to work to be comfortable and can’t,” Stefanski said at his press conference.
Tua Tagovailoa then replaced Penix again in overtime. But that look was short-lived, as Tagovailoa threw an interception to Kyle Hamilton on the second play of the game, sealing the loss.
Penix completed 19-of-32 passes for 240 yards with a touchdown before leaving the contest.
“I thought, against a tough defensive front, tough coverage, I thought I’d make some plays,” Stefanski said. “Like every quarterback, you’re not going to make every play. But there are definitely things he can improve on. But I thought he struggled.”
The Falcons will play the Bears at home in Week 6.
