Daniel Jones gave the ball to the Pittsburgh Steelers five times when they met in 2025. He didn’t turn it over this year. Unfortunately, the result is still the same. Actually, the final score was even worse. Jones not turning the ball over was the silver lining some fans were clinging to to feel better about another lackluster performance from the Indianapolis Colts. This marks a disappointing moment for this organization.
Yes, the Steelers five turnover performance last year was terrible. Zero turnovers last week was a big improvement, but is that the new metric? Not including fumbles, but Aaron Rodgers has attempted 402 straight passes without an interception. That’s a record and an outlier, but holding someone like Rodgers, especially in his prime, to a statement like, “well, at least he’s holding the ball this time” is unheard of.
Before attacking, I’m not saying Jones needs to have 402 pass attempts without an interception to be considered great or even good. There are many places between Rodgers’ record-setting year and Jones’ five-turnover game, last week’s performance being one of them. A zero turnover game should be more of the rule than the expected and prayed for exception. Even the thought shows how far this franchise has fallen since Manning and Luck.
The Colts used to win. They used to win big. Today, we see below average games and think “it could be worse”. Daniel Jones is not the answer. Out of this league. Chris Ballard and the Colts trusted him, but Jones wasn’t going to lead the Colts to greatness. Since hanging up that AFC Finalist banner, the Colts have gotten too comfortable with “even if he didn’t flip it” type of performances.
