Meet 2027 NFL Draft Prospect Makhia Sherrard, WR, UT-Martin

Makhia Sherrard, WR, Tennessee-Martin | 2027 NFL Draft Prospect Zoom Interview

Makhia Sherrard is a versatile offensive weapon in Tennessee-Martin who brings speed, explosiveness and proven production to the receiving corps. An NAIA All-American in Lindsey Wilson before transferring to UTM, Sherrard was most effective from the slot while also proving capable as a traditional wideout and contributing as a return specialist. A true deep threat, he combines solid speed, acceleration and an explosive release to challenge defensive backs vertically and create separation downfield. He runs confident routes with a strong football IQ, recognizing coverages and defensive leverage to manipulate defenders and find openings in the secondary. His understanding of defensive schemes, paired with his ability to attack downfield, makes him a valuable option in the passing game.

Sherrard is also effective with the ball in his hands, using his speed to miss the first defender and gain extra yardage. He was used on screens, jet sweeps and reverses, allowing the offense to take advantage of his open-field ability beyond standard passing concepts. His big-play potential was evident against Texas Wesleyan in 2025, when he tallied five receptions for a career-high 215 yards and three touchdowns to earn Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors. He finished the season averaging 19.4 yards per reception and earned AFCA-NAIA Third Team All-American honors. Sherrard gives the Skyhawks a proven vertical threat who can stretch coverage, exploit space underneath and create explosive plays from multiple formations.
