The Colts are making an expected roster move regarding the backup at receiving tight end

Mallory, who missed the team’s last two preseason games with a thumb injury, has spent the entire 2026 season to date on injured reserve. He is in the process of finishing his second week of his allotted three-week window before the Colts activate him on IR or he remains on IR for the entire season.

Obviously, all signs are that the Colts will activate him at some point during the three-week window. Otherwise, they won’t open it in the first place.

The former Indianapolis 2023 5th round pick showed flashes as a receiver at tight end throughout his early career with the Colts, but unfortunately, played in a tight tight end room as of late with Tyler Warren, Mo Alie-Cox, and Drew Ogletree ahead of him on the team’s positional depth chart.

That said, Warren, the clear primary receiving tight end of the group, is currently “questionable” with a groin injury, making him a limited participant in the team’s practice on Friday. If Warren misses time, Mallory could play a role to help replace him receiving-wise on Sunday at home against the Tennessee Titans.

Mallory led all Colts receivers during the team’s preseason opener against the New England Patriots on the road, hauling in a team-high 6 receptions for a total of 80 receiving yards.
