Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts are both expected to miss the Eagles’ Week 6 home tilt against the Carolina Panthers.
Coach Nick Sirianni’s Philadelphia Eagles are missing Week 6’s home game against the Carolina Panthers with star WR DeVonta Smith on the injured leg. The team also dealt with injuries to star running back Saquon Barkley and star quarterback Jalen Hurts, both of whom received injury updates before the contest from ESPN reporter Adam Schefter.
Shefter shared an update on the Eagles’ star duo when he broke the bad news.
Both Barkley and Hurts were listed as “out” for the game on the Eagles’ injury report as neither player practiced leading up to the game.
Hurts had a 220-yard, one touchdown passing game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, England in Week 6 action. He didn’t have Barkley on the field with him and instead relied on Dameon Pierce, who is healthy entering Week 6, and Will Shipley, who was also listed for the Panthers game.
Hurts has a scary blood clotting issue that will force him to sit out, giving former Stanford Cardinal starter and Eagles backup QB Tanner McKee a chance to start an NFL game for the third time in his career. McKee has a 1-1 career record as a starter with 597 yards passing, five touchdowns and one interception. He was taken in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft and had time to learn and work his way through Sirianni’s system.
The Panthers are coming off a bye week and three straight wins including a 32-26 prime time victory over the Detroit Lions on Oct. 4. Sirianni’s offense looks to have a tough match on its hands without Barkley and Hurts, but McKee has proven himself capable in the past.
