The Seahawks designated Charbonnet to return to practice Thursday morning, meaning they will have a 21-day window to activate him on their active roster. The fourth-year running back was required to miss at least four games after he opened the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, but has been eligible to return in Week 5 against the San Francisco 49ers.
If the team chooses not to activate him, he will remain on the physically unable to perform list for the rest of the year.
Since he hasn’t fully participated in a practice in nearly nine months, it’s no surprise the Seahawks are giving Charbonnet a full 21 days to ramp up. If that’s the case, he’s likely set to return to action against the Denver Broncos in Week 6 (exactly two weeks from now) or the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7.
Charbonnet totaled a career-best 730 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns in 16 games last season while splitting the work with Kenneth Walker III, and numbers again as the go-to back in short yardage and goal line situations. Upon his return, he is set to split with fellow rookie Jadarian Price, who has yet to carve out a feature role for himself. Seattle also has Emanuel Wilson and George Holani, who they used alongside Price in Charbonnet’s absence.
