After a lot of uncertainty leading up to the Eagles’ Week 3 Monday Night Football game against the Bears, NFL insider Jay Glazer reported Sunday that Chicago plans to give third-string QB Case Keenum the start, and Tyson Bagent to serve as the backup. This will be Keenum’s first regular season action since 2023.
Caleb Williams was confirmed to have a grade 2 hamstring injury that will sideline him for several weeks, and while Bagent is usually the Bears QB2, he was in the concussion protocol for most of the week and couldn’t do much heading into Monday night’s game. Bagent was cleared to play on the weekend, so he was available, but putting him in charge of an offense with little to no starting reps didn’t seem like the ideal move in Ben Johnson’s mind.
Eagles DC Vic Fangio doesn’t seem worried about the uncertainty at quarterback for the Bears and explained that they will prepare for Chicago’s offense as a whole, rather than just who is playing QB. Fangio expects the offense to run a similar scheme regardless of who is taking the snaps.
Although the quarterback will obviously impact the game, the Eagles’ defense is really focused this week on avoiding another embarrassing showing against the Bears run game. Defensive tackle Jordan Davis said it was tough re-watching the tape from last year’s loss as they prepared for Monday’s game, but ultimately said there was a lot to learn and do better this go-around.
