NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Here are tonight’s NHL predictions and best bets.
Columbus (+150) at Minnesota (-185) – Total 6 (-128)
6 pm ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets will take their third shot at back-to-back wins when they face the Wild in Minnesota today. Columbus is coming off a 1-0 overtime win over the Rangers on Saturday night. With Jet Greaves starting on Saturday, Cam Talbot will be between the pipes for the Jackets on Sunday. The Minnesota Wild last played on Thursday when they defeated the St. Louis Blues, 5-4 and have a decided rest advantage. The Wild have scored 4+ goals and covered the puck line (-1.5 goals) in four of their five wins, and the Jackets have given up 4+ goals and given up 2+ goals in each of their three losses.
A couple of Columbus players are props on my card. Kent Johnson has scored goals in three straight and scored the first goal in each of the Jackets’ last two games, and now he’s celebrating his 24th birthday Zach Werenski had 11 points in 15 games against the Wild and scored twice in a game where he faced Minnesota goalie Jesper Wallstedt. When it comes to getting his team on the board first, the Wild’s Matt Boldy is one of the best. He scored Minnesota’s first goal of the game 17 times last season (team lead) and opened the scoring for Minnesota in three of the last four games. Boldy scored three goals in four games against Columbus’ starting goalie for the day, Cam Talbot.
Kirill Kaprizov leads the NHL with nine goals this season, and he has 11 goals in nine games against the Jackets; he lit up Talbot, scoring seven goals in the four games he faced Talbot in his career. Joel Eriksson Ek has registered 3+ shots on goal in six of his last eight games overall and 2+ shots in seven of his last eight against Columbus. Blake Coleman has at least two shots on goal in seven straight games against the Jackets.

Minnesota Wild Team Total Over 3.5 (-118) – ½ unit
Carolina (-220) at Calgary (+180) – Total 6 (-115)
8 pm ET
After dropping their first two games of the season, the Carolina Hurricanes reeled off seven straight wins and gave up two or fewer goals in six of the seven wins. The Canes have given up just three goals in the third period this season, tied with Buffalo for the fewest goals given up in the final 20 minutes of a game. Calgary is on the verge of being the worst team in the NHL season. The Flames have lost six of their first seven games to start the season. They have given up four or more goals in all six of their losses, lost all six by 2+ goals and five times by three goals or more.
Former Calgary Flames forward Mark Jankowski has goals in six consecutive games (longest current streak in the NHL). Sebastian Aho (13 pts) and Andrei Svechnikov (11 pts) led the Canes in scoring, and both had good numbers against Calgary. Aho had 17 points in 18 career games against Calgary, and Svechnikov had 11 points in 13 career games. Some Hurricanes shots-on-goal props I want right now. Shayne Gostisbehere has 2+ shots on goal in five straight and six in seven games, and has reached this mark in four of his last six games against the Flames. Calgary’s Joel Farabee has at least two shots on goal in five straight games and has scored two goals in two games on four shots against Canes starting goalie Brandon Bussi.
NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Carolina Hurricanes Team Total Over 3.5 (-122) – ¾ units
Carolina Hurricanes Team Total Over 4.5 (+190) – ¼ unit
Carolina Hurricanes -1.5 goals (+110) – ¾ unit
Carolina Hurricanes -2.5 goals (+174) – ¼ unit
Mark Jankowski anytime goal (+390) – ¼ unit
Mark Jankowski Over ½ assist (+320) – ¼ unit
Aho 1+ points/Svechnikov 1+ points/Gostisbehere 2+ shots on goal (+203) – ½ unit
