New York Jets vs. Kansas City Chiefs odds: Opening lines for Week 9 matchup

The New York Jets lost their third straight game and sixth in their last seven on Sunday. Last week the Jets lost at home against the previously winless Miami Dolphins. This week the Las Vegas Raiders snapped their own four game losing streak by out-scoring the Jets in a wild 38 – 33 shootout in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Jets took a nine-point lead into the locker room at halftime, only to blow it open in the second half. The Jets’ defense was powerless to stop the Raiders’ onslaught in the second half as the Jets went on a 24-10 run to close out the game. It was an embarrassing performance by a rotten Jets defense.

The humiliating loss to the Jets left the Jets with a 2-6 record to start the season, in 3rd place in the AFC East. Any hope of a playoff run is gone. Although mathematical elimination is likely a month or more away, it has become clear that the Jets playoff drought will reach 16 years and count by the end of the season.

Now the Jets go on the road to face the 5-2 Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas City next Sunday. The Chiefs have lost two straight games to tough road opponents. This week the Denver Broncos barely survived as the Chiefs were stopped at the one yard line as they tried to get a game winning score as time expired.

The Chiefs opened the 2026 season with a dominant 31 – 10 victory over the Denver Broncos. They followed up the impressive win with four straight victories against some of the worst teams in the NFL – the Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers. A 5-0 start to the season is good, but with four of those wins coming against bad teams, it’s hard to tell just how good the Chiefs are. Now they’ve lost two straight to tough opponents.

Are the Chiefs a top team? Maybe. It is not entirely clear. What is clear is that the Chiefs are a far, far better team than the Jets. Teams like the Dolphins and Raiders snapped their losing streaks against the Jets in East Rutherford. It seems all but the inevitable Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs will do it at home, too.

Let’s take a look at the current odds for this game according to FanDuel Sportsbook. No wonder the oddsmakers think the Chiefs can easily handle the Jets. The current line has the Jets road underdogs by 9.5 points. The game has an over/under of 46.5 points. On the moneyline the Jets are +400 while the Chiefs are -520.

Any given Sunday and all that jazz, but an upset here seems like a bridge too far for the Jets. Maybe they can pull off one of those infamous morale victories and keep the game competitive against a Chiefs team that might understandably struggle to get up for a game against the hapless Jets.
