It was great to see the Broncos’ pass rush when it was needed most against the Chargers

Let’s do it too folks – a few weeks ago after the first game of the season and the chefs beat the Broncos in KC did a Feed Post on the Broncos needing to find their inner Lyle Alzado, their Conrad Dobler and be the craziest of the opposition. This is of course half written tongue in cheek which means the Broncos have to within today’s rules of “basketball in cleats” figure out how to dominate and be the enforcers that other teams are wary of playing.

Robber Barron went to Texas as a 1st rounder, learned the modern game there and within the rules he was what I call a “stick man” in an old football term. That means the ball carrier doesn’t go when Robber Barron makes a tackle because he’s a smaller player at about 5’11” and 200lbs so he goes for the ottoman tackle which means taking the ball carrier’s legs off and he’s very good now as he is at Texas. That part of his game has been transferred seamlessly to the NFL style and NFL players hate that NFL and NFL players. more afraid of injuring their legs rather than getting a dinger or what is now known as a concussion – both legitimate concerns that make Robber Barron a badazz.

Malcolm Roach is a former Texas player; however, a UDFA that Nawlin plucked from the scrap heap 8yrs ago and came with Payton to the Broncos. At 6’3″ and 290lbs Malcolm is a good sized IDL who isn’t big and when he was primarily backing up DT/NT Jones was actually a bit on the lighter side, but a strong run defender so it gets the job done. Now, Malcolm plays primarily as an IDL at DE and it frees up his game more than being stuck at DT/NT.

Enter the badazz Malcolm, the “enforcer” Malcolm – the one who swings club after club. The hit Malcolm made on Hebert when Bonito caught him from behind on the way down was priceless. It sent a message and it was all over the Chargers – it was loud and clear – game over. The toughest man in baby blue just broke and they all knew it. I have no idea if this is within the constraints of the rules because Malcolm clearly doesn’t seem like he’s trying to put his full weight on Hebert but it doesn’t seem like he’s either, what really surprises me is unless I’m wrong and I might just be like going to watch it live and replay it so it’s not like a Zapruder tape to watch over and over again. I think Malcolm took that Billy Club arm on purpose and slammed it with Herculean force into Hebert’s upper chest almost neck while avoiding the chin strap or Hebert would have been KO’d. It shook Hebert’s whole body to such a degree that Hebert didn’t know which part of his body hurt more – the wrist he kept shaking to try to feel with his hands and arms I guess, his head he immediately tried to remove, the chest when he bowed in pain before entering the blue tent – his whole body was destroyed by pain.

I have NO idea if that is a legal hit in the NFL today, leading to the forearm on a QB – if it had happened to Bo Nix, we would all have sent Malcolm to the commish’s office for appropriate punishment. Malcolm might be getting that FEDEX letter in his locker this week; however, Malcolm is a Bronco and I’m here for it because Zach Allen is the best of our front seven and Malcolm might be the worst of us – the Enforcer that every QB needs to know is hiding and looking to take his head off.

Borderline or crossing the line that could end for them any play Malcolm makes on the field – the Broncos need that guy the rest of the NFL is wary of and afraid of. Atwater is our prime example along with Alzado – Tombstone – Carter – Gradishar – Dennis Smith and many others that ball carriers know their azzes can be kicked out by these players – Malcolm can join that list – and again – as a Bronco fan, I’m here for it!
