Eagles Injury Report: Saquon Barkley among key players missing practice again

The Philadelphia Eagles released their second official injury report of the week on Thursday ahead of their Week 8 game against the Washington Commanders.

The Eagles listed six players under DID NOT PARTICIPATE: Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith, Dontayvion Wicks, Jihaad Campbell, Britain Covey, and Jonathan Jones.

Barkley is on track to miss Sunday’s game. If he can’t play, the Eagles are left with one healthy running back on the active roster: Jaydon Blue. Blue was called up from the practice squad on Wednesday. Playing for the Dallas Cowboys as a rookie last season, Blue logged 38 carries for 129 rushing yards (3.4 average) in addition to one reception for five receiving yards. The Eagles also have Elijah Mitchell, who was tentatively moved up by the team to play in Week 7, on the practice squad. Jaydon Blue and Elijah Mitchell. Not exactly the most inspiring backfield for the Eagles to work with!

Smitty and Wicks are on track to miss another game after also being unavailable in Week 7. With those two potentially out and Covey likely out, the Eagles are down to the following wide receivers: Darius Cooper, Makai Lemon, Hollywood Brown, and Elijah Moore. They also have three practice squad receivers: Erik Ezukanma, Xavier Gipson, and newly signed Quentin Skinner.

Campbell is certain to miss Sunday’s game after getting benched in Week 7. Look for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. to start alongside Zack Baun.

Jones is also set to miss Sunday’s game, leaving the Eagles without their top backup outside cornerback.

The Eagles have listed six players under LIMITED PARTICIPATION: Michael Carter II, Nolan Smith, Jonathan Greenard, Jalyx Hunt, Moro Ojomo, and Marcus Epps.

Smith was listed as limited for the second straight day. He has a chance to return after missing Week 7 with a concussion. Carter II also has a chance to play for the first time since being injured in Week 5.

Greenard, Hunt, and Ojomo were also listed as limited for the second straight day. Assuming they can play, even if it’s less than 100%.

Epps is a new addition to the report with his injury description listed as “jaw/concussion evaluation.” He probably crashed during practice on Thursday. Epps started the season as the safety next to Andrew Mukuba in nickel packages but was then relegated to special teams duties after struggling on defense.

The Eagles listed eight players under FULL PARTICIPATION: Zack Baun, Landon Dickerson, Dallas Goedert, Drew Kendall, Tyler Steen, Arnold Ebiketie, Smael Mondon, and Jakorian Bennett.

Baun, Dickerson, Goedert, Kendall, Steen, and Ebiketie were all listed as full participants for the second day in a row. They will play on Sunday.

Bennett is also full but he is still on injured reserve. The Eagles have until 4:00 PM Eastern on Saturday to activate him to the roster if they want him to play against Washington. Otherwise, he’ll remain on IR with his 21-day practice window coming to a close.

Mondon was upgraded from limited on Wednesday to full on Thursday.

Three changes from Wednesday’s Washington report:

  1. Stefon Diggs was upgraded to full participation after sitting out yesterday.
  2. Treylon Burks, now WR3 with Terry McLaurin for the season, was demoted from limited to DNP. He could be in danger of missing Sunday’s game, leaving the Commanders even thinner at wide receiver.
  3. Starting center Nick Allegretti was unexpectedly added to the report with a back injury. Commanders are already weak on the pivot, so, that is not an ideal development for them.

In other news, starting defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw and the No. 2 tight end (mainly blocker) John Bates missed practice for the second day in a row. They are tracking to miss Sunday’s game.
