On Tuesday, the Miami Dolphins announced two roster moves — one for the 53-man roster and one for the practice squad.
Miami signed linebacker Shaka Heyward off the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad. The move immediately added Heyward to the Dolphins’ 53-man roster where he must remain for at least three weeks per NFL rules.
Heyward — 26 years old — is the cousin of Cameron Heyward (Pittsburgh Steelers) and Connor Heyward (Las Vegas Raiders). He played in 18 games with the Bengals over the past two seasons — recording eight tackles on defense (three solo), including one tackle for loss, adding 14 special teams tackles (six solo) and one special teams fumble.
The Dolphins also signed guard James Ester to their practice squad. Ester was previously with the Dolphins this summer after being awarded to the team off waivers following his release from the Green Bay Packers. A former defensive tackle in college at Northern Illinois, Ester spent his first two NFL seasons on Green Bay’s practice squad.
