Dolphins added Brady Cook to practice squad in bye week move

The Miami Dolphins signed quarterback Brady Cook to their practice squad, days after releasing their third-string passer from the active roster. The move followed the team’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, dropping them to 0-5 on the year. The Dolphins released Cook from their 53-man roster on Saturday to make room for defensive tackle Kenneth Grant, who was activated on the injured reserve list.

To make room on the practice squad for Cook, the Dolphins released Jarquez Hunter. The Dolphins traded for Hunter this summer, sending Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Tutu Atwell in return. Hunter arrived on the practice squad after the preseason and never played with Miami.

A 2025 undrafted free agent out of Missouri, Cook spent his rookie season with the New York Jets. He appeared in five games, starting four of them, and threw for 739 yards on a 57.5 completion rate. He had two touchdown passes and seven passes intercepted. He posted a 55.4 passer rating.

Cook was cut by the Jets as part of the team’s roster cuts at the end of this year’s preseason. He hasn’t made an appearance since signing with the Dolphins.

Miami’s quarterback room includes starter Malik Willis and backup Kyle McCord. Cook returns as the team’s third option at the position.
