Cowboys star Dak Prescott doesn’t blame his shaky performance against the Buccaneers on the hand he wrapped against the Texans
Dak Prescott’s right hand was wrapped after Sunday’s 34-30 win over the Houston Texans, but he assured the media there was no reason to worry. Following a bumpy outing in Thursday’s 24-16 home loss to the previously winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the star quarterback expressed the same sentiment.
“There’s absolutely nothing wrong with my hand,” he said, according to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News. Fans will be relieved to know Prescott isn’t nursing a serious injury after a player stepped on his hand in Houston, but they still have plenty of questions about the Week 5 outing.
Whether it was Todd Bowles’ defense, an off night, or a combination of the two, Prescott wasn’t very sharp against the Bucs. He completed an inefficient 57.1 percent of his passes for 316 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Although two picks were taken out of the hands of his teammates, he just didn’t have his usual touch. An issue at hand will certainly add some clarity to the struggles.
But why argue with the man? If Prescott insists he wasn’t physically hindered against the Buccaneers, maybe it was just a bad game. Unfortunately, the Cowboys don’t have the defense to survive a rough showing from their franchise QB.
After striking first with a Javonte Williams touchdown, Dallas surrendered a nearly 11-minute drive to Tampa. Bucky Irving finished with 175 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns, and Tez Johnson was left open for a 64-yard reception. The defense continues to place an unfair burden on the shoulders of the offense.
Although, even though the Christian Parker-led unit held its own, Dak Prescott didn’t post a game-winning effort in this one. The No. 4 and the Cowboys (2-3) will take the next 10 days to regroup and rest before squaring off against the Green Bay Packers (2-2) at Lambeau Field.
