Yes. That’s the answer to whether the Indianapolis Colts can beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh. There is a chance. There is an opportunity for many things, so this is not saying much. For the Colts to win in Pittsburgh on Sunday, they’ll need to turn in a near-perfect, polar opposite performance from last time out.
Six turnovers. That’s how many Colts committed last year. Five of them came in the hands of Daniel Jones. It was a turning point for the high-riding Colts and marked the beginning of the end. They only won one contest from that point. Jonathan Taylor has been the main fuel powering the AFC-leading Colts, but in this one, he managed just 14 carries for 45 yards. It was a fall from grace that the Colts never recovered from.
So, do the Colts have a chance to win on Sunday? Sure. The Colts haven’t won in Pittsburgh since 2008. Curt Cignetti, when asked about his team’s chances at Penn State after saying Indiana had never won there said, “this team has never played here”. That seems appropriate here too. This is a new team. Knock on wood, but will Jones commit five turnovers? Will Taylor only get 14 touches? Yes, this “team” did not play here, but at the same time, enough players and staff remained from last season to carry the memory. The Colts must and must be ready.
Big win this week. A win snaps them out of a difficult start to the year at 3-2. Not to look too far ahead, but the schedule is starting to open up a bit. A loss won’t sink the Colts, but a win would certainly have them sitting pretty. Whatever chance the Colts have to end the drought in Pittsburgh, they should take advantage.
