Circa Friday Football Invitational Picks Hit a 55.2% Win Rate Through Week Five

That was a wrap on NFL Week 5 — and what a great finale. The Bills, 3.5-point underdogs, beat the Rams 37-34 in overtime. Los Angeles, the first Super Bowl favorite, is now 2-3 and in third place in the NFC West. New Super Bowls Around: 49ers +680, Bills +700, Rams +750.

🏈 25 Handicappers. An Amazing Record.

I love it every time I hear from a professional Las Vegas bettor Steve Fezzik.

My former Northwestern classmate is generous with his feedback on what we do here at VSiN — both the good and, sometimes, the bad.

On Monday, he texted me to point out the combined record of the participants in the Circa Friday Football Invitational.

“You’ll never see a 25-year tournament with such a strong record ever.”

I checked the stats and, as usual, Steve was right.

Through five weeks, the 25 participants came together for:

479-389-7 on sides and whole

55.18% win rate

That’s 90 more winners than losers from a field of 25 handicappers.

I told Steve I hoped I wouldn’t upset the contestants by writing about it. I’ve mini-mushed them: three contestants had Rams -3.5 on Monday night.

🏈 Tuesday Night Football

Conference USA keeps the daily football streak alive with two games tonight:

Delaware (-1) at Middle Tennessee — 7 p.m. ET, CBS Sports Network

FIU (+3) at Jacksonville State — 8 p.m. ET, ESPNU

Our resident C-USA expert Adam Burke has games in both games.

Adam also spotted a potentially telling line move: Delaware opened -2.5 but fell to -1 in Circa.

“Looks like we’re trending into a reversed favorite situation. Circa -1 price suggests they’ve taken some support from the Blue Raiders and they might expect more from it.”

📊 Five Games on Adam’s Radar

Adam updated his college football power ratings and identified six games where his numbers differed from the betting line.

Actually, do that five. The news that UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava is expected to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury came after Adam completed his ratings.

Adam Burke tracks early line adjustments for Week 6 — with more moves likely as quarterback injury situations become clearer.

Get it Bears–Falcons. Michael Penix Jr. was late in Atlanta’s loss to Baltimore, while Caleb Williams could be ready to return from his hamstring injury. The line is Chicago -3, for now.

⚾ Dodgers in Trouble; The Guardians Strike First

The Dodgers are back in Los Angeles down 2-0 to the Brewers in the NLCS — and, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, even the possibility of benching Shohei Ohtani is being discussed.

Ohtani went 0-for-4 in Monday’s 7-4 loss and is hitting .150 this postseason.

In the ALCS, Cleveland opened a 7-3 victory over Tampa Bay. Game 2 is tonight, with Parker Messick faces Freddy Peralta.

Adam Burke said the bullpens told most of Monday’s story: Milwaukee got five perfect innings from its relievers, Cleveland allowed just one solo homer out of the pen, and Tampa Bay’s bullpen gave up five runs.

He’s also watching how the Guardians approach Peralta’s changeup — and how Messick’s own changeup matches up with Tampa Bay’s right-handed bats.

“I expect Freddy Peralta in Game 2 to throw a lot of changeups, but I want to see if it’s his two-strike pitches or if he throws them in early counts. That’s going to make a big difference in how the Cleveland offense plays.”
