On Saturday, the Kansas City Chiefs announced that linebacker Cole Christiansen and defensive end Tyreke Smith have been lifted from the practice squad for the Week 3 contest against the Miami Dolphins.
As senior players, they will return to the practice squad following Sunday’s action.
With only four linebackers currently on Kansas City’s 53-man roster, Christiansen’s presence is expected. The veteran was also called up for Week 2’s overtime victory over the Indianapolis Colts and was on the field for 18 special teams snaps.
It’s harder to see a path to Smith actually playing against Miami (barring injury). Defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah popped up on Wednesday’s injury report as a limited participant with a sore quad. However, Anudike-Uzomah trained fully over the next two days and is out of injury status for Sunday’s game.
Smith has bounced around the league since joining the Seattle Seahawks in 2022 as a fifth-round selection out of Ohio State. He spent last season on Kansas City’s practice squad. Despite joining the active roster last year, he has yet to appear in a game with the Chiefs.
With the Chiefs refusing to move up defensive tackle Marcus Harris like they did in the first two games, rookie nose tackle Bryson Eason looks set to make his Kansas City debut after being claimed on waivers last month.
