Bengals News: Mike Gesicki owns until late mistake

One of the big things to come out of the Cincinnati Bengals’ loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars was an apparent miscommunication between Joe Burrow and tight end Mike Gesicki on the last series of downs. Gesicki owned up to the mistake after the game:

“It was a play that, because of personnel shuffling, normally that’s Tee (Higgins) running that. So then, I went we move to Tee’s spot. I felt the corner heavy inside. I’m supposed to cross his face. I didn’t. I learned that one on the sideline. It just is what it is. There’s no excuse for things like that. I was just to make a play.”

Unfortunately, these are the types of things that can happen when you read too much to your detriment. It’s bad enough that Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are out, but when they both go down in a game things can get hectic.

The Bengals could have an issue at wide receiver next week against the Miami Dolphins. We’ll have to see how Ja’Marr Chase progresses through the concussion protocol during the week. We will also have to monitor an injury to Tee Higgins (adductor) as well. Burrow may be without his top two wide receivers in a week that seems crucial to their Bye Week afterward.

Cincinnati opens as a full touchdown favorite on the road against Miami. That’s a pretty big amount of points for a team to see on the road. It really feels like the oddsmakers are hoping for a bounce back game a la what college teams are getting.

On a day where the running game clearly had issues and the team fell behind while also struggling to stop the Jaguars, it made sense to let Burrow do his thing a little more than throwing the ball. Chase Brown also finished with 11 receptions, and the team has some wide receiver screens to keep the defense on its toes.

The Los Angeles Chargers were expected to make big strides in McDaniel’s offense, but that didn’t exactly happen as they went 0-4. This past week was their first time to cross 20 points in a game. Not a good look for Justin Herbert truthers

One of the crazier stats in the NFL is that the Jets haven’t had an interception since the 2024 season. It seems almost impossible with things like tipped balls and such. But here we are.

Jackson left the stadium in a walking boot after the game. Things are positive, but it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on as Baltimore progresses as Jackson does.
