Los Angeles Chargers news: One positive takeaway from the loss to the Seahawks

The Chargers had a close loss against the Seahawks on Sunday and wouldn’t you know it, we got a little glimpse of old Justin Herbert in his second half comeback attempt.

Once the Chargers’ offense was stymied and needed multiple scores, the entire system seemed to be simplified by Mike McDaniel at the drop of a hat. No more moves. No more unique handoff strategies. It became Herbert sitting shotgun picking apart the defense while still getting chased on every play (some things never change!).

The craziest thing is that the offense looks better now that it’s just a bunch of backups in the game protecting him. I can’t put my finger on it, but it seems…normal? And that’s probably a terrible thing but it certainly looks like Herbert has found a groove from play to play.

After suffering through the better part of the first month of the season watching this offense, the second half Sunday really felt like coming home. Herbert made hero plays, his receivers were coming for him (even Quentin Johnston!) and they were able to move the ball consistently down the field.

That’s a silver lining if ever there was one.

And now for today’s links.
