49ers news: SF insider wants to know why Dre Greenlaw’s suspension was upheld

Dre Greenlaw had his suspension upheld, while Alaric Jackson had his suspension reduced from two games to one.

The San Francisco 49ers were scheduled to sit Dre Greenlaw for one game after he head-butted Ernest Jones IV against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5. That quickly changed, when he appealed the suspension and it was upheld.

This has made people wonder why Alaric Jackson’s suspension was also not upheld after he got into an argument with a Buffalo Bills player after their game on Monday Night Football.

“49ers LB Dre Greenlaw headbutts helmetless player on sideline during game,” Matt Maiocco of NBCS writes on X, formerly Twitter. He was disqualified, missing 36 minutes in that game PLUS suspended for the next game. On appeal, his suspension was upheld. James Thrash was the hearing officer.

“Rams T Alaric Jackson was punched in the face by an opponent after one game and was suspended two games. It was reduced to one game. Derrick Brooks is the hearing officer.”

Greenlaw’s suspension may have been lifted because he missed most of the game after being disqualified. The reason Jackson is still suspended may have to do with his history. He was involved in a domestic violence situation during the offseason, and he faced no consequences from the league.

The deal was that both players used some kind of unnecessary force against the other player, but Greenlaw used his helmet, and Jackson used his fist. That may account for the level of punishment, but it’s hard to tell what the league went through when determining the suspensions.

As for Greenlaw, he will be available for the 49ers’ next game against the Washington Commanders. Jackson will miss the Rams’ next game against the Arizona Cardinals but will be available against the Las Vegas Raiders.
