The San Francisco 49ers looked like themselves again, and that meant they won. Quarterback Brock Purdy has been a big part of this team’s 3-0 start to the season as the offense has always been led by its signal-caller.
So, the 49ers are undefeated in their Week 4 matchup against the Denver Broncos, going 2-1. Before that game, Purdy was getting some special recognition for his power on the field.
In a feature for CBS Sports, Garrett Podell ranks all NFL quarterbacks entering Week 4. There’s a new No. 1, and you may have heard of him.
Brock Purdy is the No. 1 NFL quarterback, says CBS Sports
Yes, Purdy is ranked No. 1 in this tally. He climbed seven places in a week to take this title. Purdy has also made history in his debut.
“There have only been two quarterbacks in NFL history with 10-plus total touchdowns and no sacks in the first three weeks of a season: Hall of Famer Dan Marino in his 1984 NFL MVP season and 2026 Brock Purdy,” Podell noted. “Purdy leads the NFL in passer rating (133.1), passing success rate (63.9%) and expected points added (EPA) per dropback (0.62) while leading the league in passing touchdowns (9).”
Podell also points out that even with injured guys on offense, Purdy has been able to come up with wins, which takes a special person.
“He’s also accurate, ranking third in the NFL in completion percentage” at 72.3%, he said. “That’s despite seemingly losing key members of his 49ers supporting cast to injury week after week. Purdy has the top spot entering Week 4.”
Now, Purdy will try to make the tally 4-0 against a Denver team that is hungry 3-1 and avoid a second loss.
