Tony Romo is on CBS Sports after DUI plea

Tony Romo’s tenure at CBS Sports with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson has come to an end.

The network announced Friday that the two sides have agreed to part ways.

“CBS Sports and Tony Romo have mutually agreed to part ways. We thank Tony for his contributions over the past nine years and wish him the best moving forward.”

“JJ Watt will continue to partner with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson on our top NFL announce team for the remainder of the season. All other teams remain the same, including Ian Eagle, Ross Tucker and Evan Washburn.”

Romo was placed on indefinite leave by the network over the summer, after he was arrested in Wisconsin on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence. The arrest came in downtown Milwaukee on July 23, after which he was issued three citations in connection with the incident: Operating while under the influence, unsafe passing, and having an open container in a moving vehicle.

In September, he pleaded no contest to the operation while intoxicated, through a lawyer who filed a plea in court. He was found guilty and saw his driving privileges revoked for six months, and was ordered to complete an alcohol assessment program, and pay a $784 fine. Failure to pay the fine by November 2 will result in a one-year suspension of his driver’s license.

Additionally, the court ordered Romo to install an ignition interlock device on “any vehicle owned, operated or registered” in his name. This device will measure the alcohol content of his breath to confirm that he is not under the influence before driving the vehicle.

As noted in a statement from CBS Sports, Romo has been part of NFL coverage teams for nine seasons.
