The Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills released their first injury reports ahead of their Monday Night Football matchup at US Bank Stadium. Here they are:
Injury Report Terms and Glossary
Definitions of damage assignment:
Probable = the league defines a Probable injury designation as a 75% or greater chance of playing. Historically, 95% of players designated as probable are active and playing on game day.
Doubtful = the league defines a Doubtful injury designation as ‘uncertain’ whether or not the player will play. This replaces the previous definition of having a 50% chance to play. Historically, 70-75% of players with a Questionable injury designation are active and played on game day.
Doubtful = The league designates a Doubtful injury designation as meaning the player is unlikely to participate in the game. In practical terms, teams use the designation when a player has less than a 50% chance to suit up, and active game appearances from this designation remain rare. Historically, only about 6% of players with a Doubtful designation are active and playing on game day.
Out = will not play. Players with this designation are inactive on game day and are prohibited by league rules from playing.
For the Vikings, Kyler Murray’s exit is the big news and he won’t play Monday night. Theo Jackson also did not practice on Thursday and it looks more questionable whether he will play or not. Kevin O’Connell said they have other safeties like Jay Ward who could play in Jackson’s absence and several others are possibilities to be active Monday night if needed.
The rest of the injuries appear to be more of the ‘playing it’ variety and they don’t seem to be holding those players back on Monday night.
For the Bills, a laundry list of players on the injury report including three offensive line starters. Starting left tackle Dion Dawkins did not practice Thursday with a rib injury, as did starting guard Alec Andreesen, who has an ankle injury. Right tackle Spencer Brown was limited with a back issue.
Backup wideout Joshua Palmer also missed practice on Thursday due to a hamstring injury.
Other than that, the rest of the players on the roster look more like playing through minor injuries, with the exception of backups Tyrell Shavers and Jordan Hancock who have their windows open to return from the PUP and IR lists, respectively.
Let’s see how this plays out in tomorrow’s and Saturday’s injury updates.
