As this season continues to roll around, the effects are currently being felt. All of the losses cost the Indianapolis Colts two of their franchise pillars. Many more may fall soon. Losing hurts the fans and the players. Sometimes there is a silver lining, though. The good thing is that this is true in this case. The bad thing is that the silver lining belongs to the New York Jets.
Two first-round picks were given up for Sauce Gardner. Two. The first was felt when the Colts fell out of Super Bowl contention and into the middle of the draft. That’s the disease that most people can live with. This person’s lingering pain has carried over and makes this horrible time even worse to watch. Instead of the Colts hoping for a potential top-ten pick in the first round of the draft, the Jets are sitting pretty at fourth overall.

You can’t have a rainbow without the rain, and sometimes there’s a pot of gold at the end of that rainbow. That’s not the case for the Colts this year. Usually, pain is rewarded with a good opportunity to start anew, gather new foundations to build your franchise from the ashes. Yes, the Colts, with whatever horrible record they end up with, will still be well positioned in the later rounds, but the lack of a first-round selection could haunt them.
Let’s not even talk about going back. As good as Gardner has been, he’s had too much time in his short stint with the Colts to be considered trade worthy. Oh, and what did the Colts throw in at the end? Adonai Mitchell. He seems to be having a bit of a resurgence after getting into Shane Steichen’s doghouse and becoming a throw away piece. Seeing any success he has is a tough watch.
These are the bites that can stick with a franchise for a long time. If it all comes to pass, not having the fourth overall pick will make some people sick. This already costs some work. That will only add to the issue. If the Jets select a Hall of Fame player with that option, watch out. This is the state of the Colts, and the Jets will be laughing all the way to the bank
