The Denver Broncos lead the NFL in defensive statistics; run game is to help fix that

In a game that was supposed to be loaded and ready for turnovers and penalties to determine the outcome of the game – was half right – there were NO turnovers as zero INTs thrown by either QB and the 2 fumbles by the chefs were recovered by the chefs and the one by the Broncos was recovered by Trautman – he plays for the Broncos in case anyone doesn’t know the TE, so anyone doesn’t know the TE in case anyone doesn’t know the TE, so anyone doesn’t know TE. catches the Flex TE Engram is way overpowered with 3 targets and zero catches – ugghhh.

So that leaves penalties and oh, how they were in this game – at least Grandpa Reid lost his mind in his post-game presser about the false start – which he swore wasn’t going to happen. The Chefs were 11 for 105 yards in penalties with the Broncos reigning in their usual leading penalties at a 6 for 45 yards – it made a huge difference in this game. Grandpa Reid’s presser is one for the ages – babbling on and on, looking as dumb as if they asked him where his car keys are now and being completely caught unaware. I sympathize with Big Red – NO – these are team chefs who have dined and dined with Haute Taute NFL refs for the past decade at their table. Whether it’s a false start or not – I don’t give a damn – play it over in your head Grandpa Reid, and keep spouting it to anyone who will listen as they drive you somewhere in KC to your new home – Windy Hills Memory Care Rest Home. Nobody cares about chefs whining about calls – and they got a bunch, double digits in this game and it cost them. Even Kelce got stuck driving on a false start early leading to a 3 and out – something the Broncos know.

On the other hand, Lolo Payton has a more cautious presser, leaning into the humility of knowing that the chefs won the game, until they didn’t. I had a football coach once, a cerebral dude taught a science class rather than normal PE for a football coach, and he summed it up when we were losing games but winning on the stats sheet – we were winning games, but losing manufacturing. That’s the Broncos from an opposite perspective – they lose games but win manufacturing. I think Grandpa Payton is well aware of that and now like all of us is ecstatic to see the scoreboard with a 6-2 record.

One moment stopped me in my tracks during Payton’s presser – his outright disdain for NFL HQ. He was asked what this 200th win meant and he almost choked up and burst into tears – when suddenly, he broke into one of my history lessons. Payton sounded like a mob boss who survived assassination attempts as he went into detail literally saying “they tried to kill me” or “they tried to bury me” forget which and referenced the 2012 year suspension the NFL placed on him. There are things that Payton likes, some of them, quite a bit and others like WTF. This is one that I am in love with, not necessarily his particular reason, but generally, Roger “the rabbit” Goodell is the target of his hatred. You can feel Payton’s disdain for Goodell and the NFL executives. Call me good because sometimes it’s not the better person who forgives – it’s a deep hatred that is understandable.

Being a few years older than Payton, and riding that roller coaster that life can bring I’ve been fortunate enough not to have to deal with the kind of cold fear that Payton obviously has at the thought of ever returning to an NFL sidelines again – and if you don’t think it’s true – not one of my favorite people but his football acumen belies the fact that he’s still not coaching in the NFL. Jon Gruden can attest to Payton’s paranoia in fact having a reason!

It’s better for us that Payton is on the sidelines than Spaceman Harbaugh who I don’t think is really just a leverage candidate with the Broncos and as far as my other options than Payton or the equivalent of DeMeco Ryans – who cares that he’s in Houston and Payton’s in Denver, it doesn’t matter.
