Good morning, Broncos Country!
Some games do not require a message.
The Denver Broncos host the Kansas City Chiefs today. This is a divisional game. This is a shot at a redo. The AFC West lead and playoff positioning are at stake.
Broncos head coach Sean Payton didn’t have much to say. At the same time, while a Denver win today would be nice, it’s also not the end of the season if they lose.
So for Payton, it’s a big game, but there will be bigger ones.
“I think that’s right. I think everybody understands that it’s a divisional game. Here it is on the schedule. We’ve done a good job of just compartmentalizing. Always, you put the season in quarters. We don’t do that. I know who we’re going to play this week, next week. Then there’s a bye. After that … It’s a divisional game, and that’s what matters.”‘
The other messaging factor is the fact that the Broncos were blown out by Kansas City in Week 1.
“Yeah, no question,” Payton told the media earlier this week. “In other words, these guys are mature. They recognize the things we didn’t do well, offensively, defensively.”
Now it’s just a matter of correcting those issues and putting the team in a better position to have success.
“I’ve watched it a few times,” Broncos quarterback Bo Nix told the media. “I watched it right after and then I watched it again this week to prepare. I definitely wasn’t thrilled with how that game ended. There are a lot of things we can focus on and correct. What I’ve learned in the past is you can’t play the same game twice.
“That’s going to be a completely different game than what Sunday’s game is going to be, and you’ve got to play it like that. You’ve got to show a different mentality and just compete and just do your best to have a different result than the last time.”
