The Seattle Seahawks are making more moves at the running back position, and this signing involves a practice squad poach.
Jordan Schultz reported Monday that undrafted rookie Robert Henry Jr, who has been on the Washington Commanders practice squad all season, will join the Seahawks active roster. We didn’t have any official transactions announced until Tuesday, so steps had to be taken to get Henry on the team.
Henry was a first-team All-American Conference running back at UTSA, the same school where Riq Woolen starred, rushing for 1,045 yards and nine touchdowns on just 151 carries. He totaled over 2,300 yards and scored 30 total touchdowns between rushing and receiving.
At 5’9 and 196 pounds, Henry is on the smaller side for a running back and he’s no burner with his 4.52s 40-yard dash, but he still runs and Seattle only has two career RBs on the active roster. It’s reasonable to assume that if Henry were on the active roster, Velus Jones Jr would be waived and then re-signed to the practice squad, since he wouldn’t have to clear waivers. He will also gain three new elevations by returning to PS.
