Hours before the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Washington Commanders, an important report about Saquon Barkley’s future hit the net.
Despite countless trade ideas and rumors surrounding Barkley’s future with the Eagles, Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport of ESPN notified the NFL world that the Eagles will not move Barkley before the 2026 deadline.
“Saquon Barkley will not be traded before next week’s trade deadline, sources told NFL Network, ending speculation that the star running back could move to the Philadelphia Eagles who are trending toward being out of contention,” Garafolo and Rapoport wrote.
“Barkley, 29, has two years and just over $35 million left on his contract with the Eagles, who have had trade talks involving several of their players as general manager Howie Roseman surveys the market to see if he can get future draft-pick compensation.”
Saquon Barkley Commits to Eagles Future

Following the Eagles’ disappointing loss against the Washington Commanders on Sunday night, Barkley was asked about the report.
The season has been bad for the Eagles, but Barkley made it clear he’s not looking to jump. So, unless the Eagles have a change of heart from their end, Barkley isn’t going anywhere.
“I want to be here. I plan to be here,” Barkley told reporters.
“I don’t like the way the season’s going, like I’m not one of those guys that’s like, ‘Oh, the season’s not going, where are we going? It’s like let’s just jump.’ I’m not that kind of person. Right now, we have a problem that we have to fix, and you know, hopefully, I’m one of the reasons why we’re fixing it.”
Barkley and the Eagles suffered their sixth straight loss on Sunday Night Football against the one-win Commanders. It was the first time since the end of the Andy Reid era that the Eagles had lost at least six games in a row.
Contenders around the league may be looking at Barkley as a potential discounted star acquisition at the deadline, but the Eagles’ rusher doesn’t seem to be pushing his way out.
Saquon Barkley’s 2026 NFL Season

Before Sunday’s Eagles-Commanders game, Barkley appeared in five games. He caught 43 carries for 244 yards and a touchdown.
Going into Week 8 action, Barkley is expected to be in a snap count. In fact, that’s what happened. Barkley had just 13 carries for 30 yards. He scored a touchdown for the second week in a row.
It’s been a down year for Barkley, filled with setbacks and struggles. For a while, it looked like Barkley would be able to start, but that no longer appears to be the case.
