The history books are in tatters at the start of the 2026 NFL season, as there are TEN different historic moments that will take place in the first four weeks of the year. After a couple of changes in the record books that happened last week, there is still a lot on the line this week and moving forward. What records are in danger of being rewritten this week?
There are at least seven scores that could be history after Week 5. There are a few of them you can remember here; however, there were some new records being played this week, thanks to new midseason additions (as well as players advancing on the all-time records so far this year). Before we get into that, though, there needs to be a toast to all the records that were broken last week.
Congratulations to a pair of longtime legends at the tight end positions; first, Travis Kelce, who passed Tim Brown for seventh place on the all-time receptions list at home to the Las Vegas Raiders, for maximum irony. Additionally, George Kittle claimed the San Francisco 49ers triple crown for the tight end position by recording his 56th career receiving touchdown, passing Vernon Davis for the franchise record. Let’s review all the historic moments and records that are on the line in Week 5.
Historic moments and records that could be broken in Week 5
7. Atlanta Falcons receiving touchdowns by a running back record
With the pace the Atlanta Falcons are playing offense these days, there is almost no need to have a passing attack with all the damage Bijan Robinson is doing to opposing defenses. Unfortunately, receiving, not rushing, touchdowns by a running back record is in play for Robinson now. If Atlanta has to pass the ball, he needs a pair of touchdowns through the air to reach 12 in his career and break the record of 11 held by Tevin Coleman and Devonta Freeman for the position.
