Never Mind: Jalen Hurts Lands on IR After All

Well, it seems the Eagles quickly went from not even discussing IR for QB Jalen Hurts to deciding that’s the thing to do. Placing the QB on IR means he will miss at least the next four games, while the most commonly discussed timeline for his return from a blood clot is at least six weeks. The exact length, of course, depends on how his body reacts to the treatment.

2026 Fantasy Football Impact: We’ll See McKee

That means Tanner McKee will start at least the next four games, a span that will lead into the team’s Week 10 berth. So a six-week timeline for Hurts would mean one game over the IR minimum (Week 11 vs. Pittsburgh).

Assignment makes it easier to drop Hurts in many cases. He ranks just 17th among QBs in total fantasy points (depending on your format) and 21st in points per game. Hurts has also finished three straight weeks outside the top 20 at the position.

So while it might still be weird to do it, dropping Hurts is a reasonable redraft strategy where you don’t have a free IR spot to keep him.

We’ll have to see about McKee’s impact on Philly’s offense. He has two career starts, but both came in season-ending contests that found the Eagles benching starters. So it’s hard to extrapolate those results.

McKee is in his fourth season with the team, however, and endured a brief stint with Andy Dalton as the backup earlier this season.

That move should add some caution to trusting McKee, but we also have to remember that Philly quickly returned to him instead of looking for another alternative or sticking with Dalton.

McKee will get upside matchups in the next four weeks with the Panthers, Cowboys, Commanders, and Giants. We will see if he can be a superflex factor.

We’re not significantly dropping the Eagles pass catchers in our Week 6 rankings for McKee’s ascension.
