Through five weeks, the Vikings have only had 18 snaps with Kyler Murray, Justin Jefferson, and Jordan Addison healthy. Tyler acknowledges the challenge: “We still don’t have a clear picture of what it’s going to look like.” But he pushes back against the national media questioning the defense: “We’re already seeing people in the national media move the goalpost and say, ‘Well, what if Brian Flores’ defense isn’t good for one game? And can Kyler Murray shoulder the load?’ I think that conceptual idea is kind of silly.
The episode centers on O’Connell’s developing relationship with Murray. Tyler offers a memorable analogy: “It’s essentially a couple trying to build a foundation for future success.” He adds, “You’re getting engaged. You’re getting married. You’re buying a house. You are having kids. We need to start seeing some of that coming out of the bye.”
Tyler dismissed the idea that O’Connell wouldn’t adapt: ”This narrative that O’Connell doesn’t address his quarterbacks is a load of bullshit.” He tracks evidence from Kirk Cousins to Sam Darnold, JJ McCarthy, Carson Wentz, Max Brosmer, Josh Dobbs, and now Murray.
Added Stefano: “If the offense continues and we get positive EPAs like we did last weekend, that’s going to be number one special teams and number one defense. We’ll be competitive come playoffs.” He concluded: “There’s no stopping the Vikings this season.”
