Joe Mixon is getting his chance with the defending champions.
Former Pro Bowl running back Mixon is signing with the Seattle SeahawksNFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Monday. Seattle worked out Mixon earlier in the day and ultimately decided to sign him, Garafolo added.
Mixon, just 30 years old, has been the subject of comeback rumors in recent days. Over the weekend, Mixon caused a stir with a cryptic social media post hinting at a potential return.
A two-time NFL Pro Bowler, Mixon had four seasons with 1,000 yards rushing or more as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals from 2017-23. He was then traded to the Houston Texans in 2024, producing 1,016 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns that year.
But Mixon missed all of the 2025 season with a nagging leg injury. Mixon was released by the Texans in March of this year and has not been signed up to this point.
The 3-1 Seahawks are still searching for a permanent solution at running back after the departure of reigning Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III in free agency. Jadarian Price (chest) just went on injured reserve, and Zach Charbonnet (ACL) is a few weeks away from returning.
Right now, Seattle is relying on Emanuel WilsonGeorge Hollandand Velus Jones Jr. as a RB trio. It remains to be seen how much Mixon has left in the tank, but he will likely be factoring into the backfield mix at some point for the Seahawks.
