Jim Harbaugh makes comments when asked about Mike McDaniel

Jim Harbaugh’s faith in Mike McDaniel seems wavering.

The Los Angeles Chargers had their worst offensive showing in Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. The Chargers managed just 259 total yards in a 22-6 loss, keeping them one of two winless teams in the NFL.

Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel entered the Week 6 matchup feeling hot in his seat. Both seats are very hot after another poor offensive effort.

After the game, reporters asked Harbaugh about possibly stripping McDaniel of play-calling duties. The Chargers head coach did not rule it out.

“We’re going to look at everything,” Harbaugh said.

“The work I’m doing, it starts with me. The plan is let’s watch it and we’ll be with our offensive coaches. I see the effort. I see the work put in, in the meetings, on the practice field. To translate that to the field is what it takes.”

Harbaugh put his full trust in McDaniel in the offseason, saying the latter would have complete control of the Chargers’ offense for the 2026 campaign. That trust remained after the team’s 0-3 start, with Harbaugh adamant that he still trusted McDaniel and that his job was not in jeopardy.

But after arguably the Chargers’ most disappointing start in franchise history, it’s no surprise that Harbaugh may be reconsidering his stance on McDaniel.
