Jake Ferguson’s Role Continues to Diminish After 1-Target, 0-Catch Game

Jake Ferguson finished a game with 0 receptions for the first time since his rookie season in 2022. He recorded just 1 target as his route percentage dropped to 60% for the second straight week. It also now marks the back-to-back games he has been out-scored by fellow TE Brevyn Spann-Ford.

He posted a season-high 73.3% route share in Week 5 before his opportunity decline began.

Ferguson’s reduction in route coverage can be traced back to Week 5 against the Buccaneers when he produced a season-low 50% catch rate that included dropping his helmet resulting in an INT loss.

After that, he was left with just 52.4% route coverage in Week 6 before his most recent 57.1% route coverage against the Eagles in Week 7. His 53.6% route coverage over the past two weeks ranks 31st among all TEs.

He’s commanding a 36th-ranked 13.6% targets per route on the season, which, combined with low-volume involvement, results in a TE26 ranking of 7.4 PPR points per game that continues to decline.

TE Spann-Ford producing more points while running fewer routes doesn’t bode well for Ferguson’s use of the backup either.

He’ll look to rebound against a Cardinals defense that allows the fifth-most points to TEs. But his rebound will be largely determined by the Cowboys’ willingness to involve him closer to his part of the route from a few weeks ago.
