Injury report gives Eagles some good options heading into ‘MNF’

The absurdly long list isn’t even the worst of Philadelphia’s injuries.

On Monday, quarterback Jalen Hurts (blood clots) was ruled out for the season. He was first ruled out of last Saturday’s 25-14 loss to the Carolina Panthers with a superficial blood clot, pushing third-year quarterback Tanner McKee, who previously started two Week 18 games, into the QB1 role. The 2023 sixth-round pick (No. 188 overall) completed 57.8 percent of his passes for 215 yards (4.8 yards per attempt) and one touchdown.

Smith and Wicks were his top wide receivers, combining for 99 yards, including 75 yards and a touchdown from Smith on 14 targets. Their absences will put rookie first-rounder (No. 20 overall) Makai Lemon and 2025 undrafted free agent Darius Cooper in prominent roles, giving Philly a chance to see what each can do as it prepares for a potential rebuild.

Cooper is one of the few bright spots in an offense that ranks No. 28 in scoring, entering Week 7 with eight receptions, 139 yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, Lemon failed after being considered the best receiver in the 2026 class. According to Sumer Sports data, he ranks 84th among 87 wideouts who have run at least 100 routes in yards per route run (0.64), gaining 127 yards on 18 receptions (7.1 yards per reception).

Veteran Hollywood Brown, who is playing on a one-year minimum contract, was active in just one game while playing 17 snaps but could be moved into a bigger role if needed. With a big game, he could be attractive to opponents before the Nov. trade deadline. 10.

The 2026 season is quickly becoming a lost cause for the Eagles (2-4), who have lost four in a row. But as bleak as things are, in a division where no team has won a game in two weeks, Philadelphia is still in contention for an NFC East title.

The first-place New York Giants (3-2-1) are 10-point underdogs in Week 7 on the road against the Houston Texans (2-4) in quarterback JJ McCarthy’s first start, possibly giving the Eagles a chance to close in on the standings by the time the Cowboys come to town. And with New York and Philadelphia scheduled for Week 8, things could look different in a hurry.

Those chances are slim, however, with a solid portion of the Eagles roster on the injury report and several key contributors ruled out or likely less than 100 percent. To win on Monday, Philadelphia will need all the help it can get.
