Indianapolis Colts cornerback Sauce Gardner shared a funny confession about defensive tackle DeForest Buckner.
The Indianapolis Colts got into the win column on Sunday after defeating the Houston Texans, 19-17, at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Colts ended their nine-game losing streak last season.
Spencer Shrader scored the game-winning field goal from 53 yards with 16 seconds left.
DeForest Buckner was also key to the needed victory, recording seven total tackles, including one for a loss, 1.5 sacks, and two quarterback hits.
Sauce Gardner was so impressed with Buckner during the game that he stopped doing his job for a bit, as ESPN’s Stephen Holder revealed.
“Colts cornerback Sauce Gardner said he was surprised by DT (defensive tackle) DeForest Buckner’s performance on Sunday, so much so that, ‘I was just looking at the backfield’ on some plays. But he quickly admitted, ‘As a cornerback, you’re not supposed to do that,'” Holder wrote in X.
This is an honest confession of Gardner, who finally won the United States after 647 days.
Holder noted that the 25-year-old Gardner is a pleasure to talk to because of his openness, not to mention his sense of humor.
“People have a lot of opinions about Sauce, but I want to say that he has been a professional in his dealings with the media and is very kind and honest. I really, really enjoy talking to him,” Holder added.
Gardner and Buckner will continue to be key enforcers as the Colts look to tighten up their defense after allowing an average of 37 points in their first two games. Obviously, limiting the Texans to less than 20 points is a step in the right direction.
The Colts will travel to London in Week 4 to face the Washington Commanders.
