Before the season, few would have anticipated the opposite directions these teams would take. The Chiefs are the AFC’s only unbeaten squad at 4-0, now coming off their Week 5 bye week. The Chargers were the league’s biggest surprise after falling to 0-5 following Sunday’s sloppy 23-17 loss to the Denver Broncos.
The Chiefs have been favored in every game this season, and they have returned to form after missing the playoffs in 2025. For the Chargers, almost everything that can go wrong has. The team played against Denver with two starting wideouts and a top defensive talent in safety Derwin James. Quarterback Justin Herbert also played behind multiple backups along the offensive line.
Unsurprisingly, Herbert enters Week 6 coming off one of the worst performances of his career. He’ll try to play against a rested Kansas City team.
Before the bye, the Chiefs’ final action saw them defeat the Las Vegas Raiders on the road, taking them to 2-0 in AFC West contests. Los Angeles won both 2025 contests with Kansas City, including the season opener in Brazil and a Week 15 contest at Arrowhead Stadium that saw star quarterback Patrick Mahomes lost for the season with a torn ACL.
