Joey Porter Jr. was traded. to a prominent NFC team

Joey Porter Jr. is finally over. saga in Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Steelers is trading disgruntled cornerback Porter to the Dallas CowboysAri Meirov of The 33rd Team reported Wednesday night. Porter will come to Dallas in exchange for a package that includes a second-round draft pick, Meirov added.

A former second-round draft pick himself, Porter, 26, is with the Steelers through 2023. But he was caught up in an ugly contract dispute with Pittsburgh this year that resulted in Porter not even playing in a game so far.

In his final full season of action in 2025, Porter started 14 games and made 52 combined tackles, 1.0 sacks, one interception, and 14 passes defensed (tied for 12th in the NFL). But this year marks the final year of Porter’s rookie contract, and the former Penn State standout is holding out for a new contract from the Steelers.

Pittsburgh ultimately did not give Porter that new contract, opting instead to make a clean break amid an increasingly tense stalemate. That will serve to the advantage of the Cowboys, who are off to a 1-2 start and currently have a somewhat decimated secondary.

Cobie DurantShavon Revel Jr., and Devin Moore is among the Dallas cornerbacks nursing injuries right now. Once Porter, the son of former All-Pro linebacker Joey Porter, gets up to speed, he should be able to start at CB for the Cowboys alongside former NFL interceptions leader Daron Bland.
