The question making the rounds this week about the Denver Broncos centers around their slow start to games. Usually, that question is directed at head coach Sean Payton, but quarterback Bo Nix also got hit with one today when he was asked if he’s putting any extra pressure on himself to get off to a faster start.
“Not really,” Nix said Wednesday. “Honestly, it can lead to a couple plays I did the other day, pressing, and you just make it worse. My job is just get the ball where it’s supposed to get to, not force anything, take what the defense is giving me.”
This is a good answer and absolutely true. The last thing Nix and I want to do is try to force things. He has done that a little here and there and the results have not been good. Nix can create plays on his own, but that’s more instinctual football than intentionally forcing things. No, in early games, we just need to see the offense get better on early downs and get ahead of the sticks. They do that well in the second half, but for whatever reason it sucks in the first half.

Bo Nix, fourth quarter comebacks and game-winning drives
The Broncos get another come from behind win, which is amazing for Bronco fans, but terrible for our collective blood pressure. After a poor first half, in which the team was down 16, the Broncos roared back to tie the game at 16. Entering the game the Broncos were 5-95-1 all-time when trailing by 15 or more at the half. So now the Broncos are 6-95-1.
