What is Scorigami, and how many will we see in the 2026 NFL season?

There have been 1095 unique final scores in NFL history by the end of the 2025 season. With teams scoring more points in games, the extra point moving to a 33-yard kick, and teams deciding to go for two more often to gain edges, unprecedented final scores still occur despite the NFL playing for more than 100 years. These unique marks are also called “Scorigami”.

One week into the 2026 NFL season, we’ve added two more to move the needle to 1097 unique game scores.

A lot of the Scorigami we’re seeing is for 40-plus point games with high scores from both teams, but we’re also seeing scores in the 30s that haven’t happened before. It’s not just high scores that never happen, though. A game never ends in a 2-2 tie, for example. The NFL didn’t allow two-point conversions until 1994, and we’ve never seen an 8-7 game. A game has never ended in a 9-9 tie, among other scores still there.

How can we expect Scorigamis in 2026?

Since 1992, there have been three or more Scoigamis in each season. The average since the start of the 2000 season has been seven per year with a high of 14 in 2013 and a low of three in 2022 and 2009.

NFL Scorigami games in 2026

The 2026 NFL season didn’t wait to get the Scorigami train going. Two NFC North teams won Sunday’s opening weekend games by unprecedented scores. They are the 1096th and 1097th unique marks in NFL history.

The Bears defeated the Panthers 59-37 in Week 1

Usually when we get a Scorigami, it’s because something weird happened in the game. This one is not that. The Bears just landed the smack. Chicago scored 14 points in the first, third, and fourth quarters including a 17-point third quarter. Those are all regular scores, there are just more. We had a late extra point blocked, but 59-38 never happened.

The Vikings beat the Packers 39-22 in Week 1

The Packers missed an extra point in the first quarter, but that didn’t trigger many standout scores on its own. Everything remained normal until the fourth quarter when Minnesota scored to take the lead. They converted a 2-point conversion to go up 25-22. Scoring 25 points in an NFL game is unusual. Minnesota then added two more 7-point touchdowns on top of that. A 39-point day is pretty rare. (A 32-22 score never happened either.)

The Bengals beat the Titans 43-36 in Week 8

After a two-point conversion made the score a very normal 21-21, things got weird. Bengal’s safety made it 23-21. The Bengals missed a two-point conversion on the next touchdown after the Titans scored, making it 29-28. The Titans then scored two points on their next score to make it a seven-point lead at 36-29. The Bengals scored and kicked the extra point and the game was tied at 36-36 at the end of regulation. It should be noted that an overtime touchdown won the game without extra points before this season and it was 42-36 then.

Some potential Scorigami numbers to look out for in 2026

  • 8-7: Someone scores a late touchdown and goes for the win, not the tie
  • 9-9: Two struggling offenses end in a 9-9 tie, or a 6-6 game at the end of regulation that ends this way
  • 18-8: Feels like it should be taken
  • 25-18: How many ways to get to 18 after the score to win
  • 32-22: A team playing catch up goes to 22 and a team that avoids them goes to 32
  • 41-41: At 40-40 off the board, let one go
  • 42-25: A team trailing makes it a three-possession game
  • 46-17: This is the lowest number against the most common 17
  • 47-40: we scored a ton of points
  • 50-0: The cleanest shutout number
  • 50-3: This is the lowest number against the most common 3
  • 60-14: This is the lowest number against the most common 14

How every NFL Scorigami happened in 2025

After seven Scorigamis in 2024, there are four NFL games hitting the new finals in 2025, two including the high-scoring Buffalo Bills. here’s how each of them got there in chronological order:

Bills beat Ravens 41-40 in Week 1

This game featured two high-powered offenses at the height of their power, but the Bills started two in the third quarter and missed consecutive attempts. Midway through the fourth quarter, they sat at 25 points, a rare number. The Ravens’ missed extra point put Baltimore at 40 — not an entirely unusual number on its own — before the Bills’ final push. Buffalo made it 40-38 after two touchdowns and an extra point but failed to convert on the game-tying two-point conversion. They recovered the ball and kicked a field goal as time expired to win 41-40.

Cowboys and Packers tie 40-40 in Week 4

There are some relationships still available on this list, but not as many as you might think. The NFL didn’t have sudden-death overtime until 1974 when they added a 15-minute frame, so there were a bunch of ties before 1974 but then fewer. They changed the rule in 2010 so it wasn’t sudden death for a first-drive field goal then shortened the time to 10 minutes in 2017. In 2025, they gave possession to each team. With those recent changes, relationships may become more common.

Those rule changes directly affected this game between the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers. Dallas didn’t win after their first-possession field goal because Green Bay was guaranteed possession. The Packers only had 4:40 on the clock and drove deep into Dallas territory. After shots toward the end zone failed, they settled for a 40-40 tie as time expired.

The Texans beat the Jaguars 36-29 in Week 10

In the third quarter, the Jaguars went up 23-10 and scored another touchdown. Up 19, they knew the Texans would have to score three times to win so they tried to turn a 21-point lead into three touchdowns to tie or win. That game failed, and they sat at 29 points with a 19 point lead.

The Texans then scored a touchdown with a two-point conversion to make it an 11-point game. Another touchdown with a failed two-point conversion made it a 5-point game. Houston scored again to go up 30-29 and tried another two-point conversion to make sure they didn’t lose with a late field goal, but that attempt failed with 31 seconds on the clock.

This is where things get crazy. 30-29 score happened before. But the Texans returned a fumble for a touchdown to make it 36-29 as time expired. A final of 37-29 and 38-29 ensued, but with no time on the clock, there were no extra point attempts, and the final stood at Scorigami.

The Bills beat the Buccaneers 44-32 in Week 11

For Buffalo’s second Scorigami of the year, they also led by 40 points. The Buccaneers started the shenanigans in the third quarter when they scored a touchdown to make it 26-21. They went for two to try and make it 28-21 but the conversion failed. Buffalo got to 31 the old-fashioned way, with four touchdowns and a PAT plus a field goal, and the score was 31-26. After another touchdown, the Bucs tried to make it a three-point lead with another two-point conversion that failed, leaving them trailing by 32 points. Buffalo scored another touchdown to make it 37-32 and failed a two-point conversion to try and make it a seven-point game. The Bills’ last touchdown of the game was their 43-32 lead and Buffalo pushed it to 44-32 with an extra point to make it a two-touchdown lead with 2:35 left.
