The Seattle Seahawks made another major midseason trade under John Schneider, acquiring perennial Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts. Pending a physical, the Seahawks will give up a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-rounder. Not bad for someone who has been at the top of his position for a long time and still remains among the best guards in the NFL.
You’re probably wondering how this affects Seattle’s 2027 draft capital, as giving up a Round 1 or Day 2 pick is one of the things that can cause the fanbase to be upset about whoever the trade is. Well, I have good news on the draft front.
The Seahawks currently own a 2027 draft pick
Only four native picks? Boo. But wait! This is where things get fun!
The Seahawks tentatively have an additional 2027 draft pick
In fact, there’s a small chance that the Walker comp pick will be a fourth-rounder, which we’ll explain later. If not, there’s a reason John Schneider stockpiled as many comp picks as possible during free agency. If Seattle wants to make a trade at the deadline, they won’t be in a situation where they enter a stronger draft class (on paper) with fewer picks.
Seattle temporarily has 10 draft picks and still has skin in the game through all seven rounds. They may not be done making big roster moves with two weeks to go before the deadline, but the Seahawks have the best of both worlds: they have enough stock for April, and they’re stocking up for their latest Super Bowl push.
