It was a hot day when the Cincinnati Bengals beat the Miami Dolphins in a game that started at 9o degrees, making it the hottest road game in Bengals history, according to Bengals.com’s Geoff Hobson.
The broadcast mentioned that it was about 10 degrees warmer on the Bengals sideline than in Miami, and they also mentioned players taking IVs to stay hydrated. It was so hot that broadcasters even mentioned players changing undershirts midgame.
The heat affected everyone, and after the game, head coach Zac Taylor said his team was “dead tired” at the end.
“There’s really nothing at this point in October that prepares you for this heat,” Taylor said. “I mean, somebody told me it started as the hottest game here in October history, which I can attest to. I’ve coached here for four years, and before the game, I was exhausted. And so our players battled through that.”
Taylor said he specifically told his team it was the hottest October game in Hard Rock Stadium history, so they knew it wasn’t an issue with their bodies or conditioning.
The bye week is early in the season, and with some of the injuries, tight games, and now the extreme heat the Bengals have played in, it might be the perfect time for a week off. An AFC North clash with the Baltimore Ravens awaits them in 14 days.
