Will Shipley injury: Eagles running back could miss multiple games

Philadelphia Eagles running back Will Shipley suffered “a partial tear of his plantar fascia” and could miss multiple games as a result, according to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Shipley’s injury occurred relatively early in the Eagles’ Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Although he was not listed on the injury report entering Sunday’s game, he has been listed on the report in recent weeks with a foot injury.

Normally the Eagles’ third-string running back, Shipley started against the Jags because Saquon Barkley was ruled out with a hamstring injury and Tank Bigsby was placed on injured reserve.

With Shipley expected to miss time, the Eagles currently have two healthy running backs on the roster: Dameon Pierce and Carson Steele. Pierce recorded a team-high 11 carries in Shipley’s absence but gained just 14 yards in no small part due to an undermanned and struggling offensive line. Steele was limited to special teams duties against the Jags.

It remains to be seen if Barkley will be able to return to the field in Week 7. That seems like a near return from a hammy. If Barkley can’t settle, the Eagles will have to ride with Pierce and Steele. Maybe they’ll call up Jaydon Blue from the practice squad to round out that group. They may also need to sign another running back in PS for depth purposes.
