Definitions of damage assignment:
Probable = the league defines a Probable injury designation as a 75% or greater chance of playing. Historically, 95% of players designated as probable are active and playing on game day.
Doubtful = the league defines a Doubtful injury designation as ‘uncertain’ whether or not the player will play. This replaces the old definition of having a 50% chance to play. Historically, 70-75% of players with a Questionable injury designation are active and played on game day.
Doubtful = The league designates a Doubtful injury designation as meaning the player is unlikely to participate in the game. In practical terms, teams use the designation when a player has less than a 50% chance to suit up, and active game appearances from this designation remain rare. Historically, only about 6% of players with a Doubtful designation are active and playing on game day.
Out = will not play. Players with this designation are inactive on game day and are prohibited by league rules from playing.
For the Vikings, Jordan Addison’s upgrade to a limited participant in Thursday’s practice bodes well for his availability on Sunday. His injury is considered minor.
Justin Jefferson continues to be limited in practice and he said yesterday that the plan is to play Sunday but he will take it day by day. His ankle doesn’t seem to be bothering him anymore, but I wouldn’t expect him to play on Sunday unless he has a full practice beforehand. Let’s see what happens tomorrow.
Christian Darrisaw is in the concussion protocol and missing another day of practice makes it less likely he will play Sunday. I’d be surprised if he plays at this point.
Charles Demmings’ upgrade to limited means he has a chance to be active on Sunday.
Kevin O’Connell said he expects Brett Thorson to return as punter/holder for the Saints game and his full status for Wednesday and now at Thursday’s practice seems to confirm that. The Vikings also released Johnny Hekker from the practice squad, which is another indication that Thorson will be back on Sunday.
Michael Jurgens and Ben Yurosek had their 21-day windows to return from injured reserve open on Wednesday and the fact that they were both fully participating in practice was a good sign. However, whether or not they will be activated for Sunday’s game will come down to other roster considerations.
Lastly, Brian O’Neill is dealing with what appears to be a minor knee injury that he will likely play through.
For the Saints, Alvin Kamara’s upgrade to limited means he’s on track to play Sunday.
Lorenzo Styles and Jaylan Ford have been designated to return from IR and open their 21-day window, but it is unclear at this point whether they will be activated for Sunday’s game or not.
Saints starting QB Tyler Sough’s upgrade to full participant also means he’s on track to play Sunday as expected.
One downgrade worth keeping an eye on is that of Chris Olave, their best receiver, who has been limited by a foot injury. My guess is he will play on Sunday but it could be an injury that limits him on the field.
The Saints also have three starters on IR that hurt.
Other than that, there’s a long list of unlikely but unlikely consequences for Sunday’s game.
We will have the final report and injury designations on Friday.
