The Seahawks activated special teams ace Irv Charles from injured reserve

The Seattle Seahawks will have some reinforcements arriving on special teams starting with Thursday’s critical road game at the Denver Broncos.

On Tuesday, the team announced that wide receiver Irv Charles has been activated to the 53-man roster. Charles was placed on injured reserve prior to the start of the regular season as he continues to recover from an ACL tear suffered at the end of the 2024 season. Charles may be listed as a wide receiver but he has never been targeted since entering the NFL in 2022, instead making a name for himself as a special teams gunner during his time with the New York Jets.

Seattle’s special teams unit has been a mixed bag, with Jason Myers performing strongly throughout the regular season after a sub-par preseason. The punt coverage unit recovered two fumbles and otherwise has yet to give up a punt return yard, but they are one of the league’s worst units at defending kick returns. Charles considered an aid on that front in addition to the gunner’s duties. Seattle traded for Charles in May, giving up a conditional 2028 draft pick.
