The Eagles made a decision on injured reserve Jalen Hurts

The Eagles will not place Jalen Hurts on injured reserve despite his blood clot diagnosis. Here’s what the decision means for Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Eagles reportedly have no plans to place Jalen Hurts on injured reserve despite his indefinite absence. The decision follows growing concerns about the quarterback’s condition, with the Eagles previously facing a deadline to determine his IR status.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Philadelphia intends to keep Hurts on its active roster. The quarterback remains sidelined because of a superficial blood clot in his calf.

An injured designation would require Hurts to miss at least four games. Avoiding that transition maintains the possibility of an earlier return, although no timetable has been established.

The Eagles believe the condition is treatable. However, Hurts and his medical team are still determining the appropriate treatment plan.

Philadelphia previously disclosed that Hurts experienced calf discomfort after being cleared in their Oct. 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams. An ultrasound performed in London then detected the blood clot.

The medical staff initially cleared Hurts to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, a follow-up examination revealed movement in the clot, prompting the team to sideline him.

Head coach Nick Sirianni emphasized the quarterback’s health throughout the situation. The organization continues to prioritize medical evaluations over establishing a return date.

Meanwhile, the Eagles added quarterback Joe Milton from the Dallas Cowboys to bolster their depth.

Tanner McKee will start against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, October 18. Philadelphia also faces additional injury concerns, including the return without Saquon Barkley.

Avoiding Hurts in the injured reserve offers flexibility, but it does not guarantee a quick recovery.

For now, Philadelphia must prepare for an uncertain stretch without the starting quarterback.
