The Chiefs signed wide receiver Bub Means to the practice squad

According to the NFL Transactions Report on Thursday, the Kansas City Chiefs have added another receiver to their practice squad.

Bub Means, a fifth-round pick of the New Orleans Saints in the 2024 NFL Draft, was listed as a practice-squad transaction for the Chiefs a day after he tried out for a spot. He was one of nine players Kansas City hosted for tryouts Wednesday. The Chiefs also signed wide receiver Jacob De Jesus, who spent time with the team this offseason.

Listed at 6 feet 2 inches tall and 215 pounds, Means hasn’t played in a regular-season game since his rookie year in New Orleans in 2024, when he appeared in seven games and produced 118 yards and seven first downs on nine receptions. All of his production came in a three-game stretch, Weeks 6-8 of that rookie campaign. He spent 68% of his snaps as an outside receiver during that time with an average depth of target of 12 yards.

That meant being cut after this year’s preseason, then spending time on the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad this season.

Before he was a fifth-round selection out of the University of Pittsburgh, Means threw for 1,552 yards and 10 touchdowns in two seasons at Pitt and one freshman at Louisiana Tech. Means was originally a three-star high school recruit who enrolled at the University of Tennessee.

In his final year in college, 42% of Means’ targets were 20 or more yards downfield; he caught 10 passes for 395 yards and five touchdowns on deep throws in 2023, according to Pro Football Focus.

At the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, Means had notable arm length measured at 33 1/4 inches (86th percentile for receivers) and 10 1/8-inch hands (91st percentile). He ran a 4.43-second 40-yard dash with a 10-yard split of 1.55 seconds. He recorded a vertical leap of 39 1/2 inches (88th percentile) and a broad jump of 10 feet 2 inches.

The 25-year-old joins Justin Watson and Jacob De Jesus to form a trio of practice-squad receivers for the Chiefs to call up; Andrew Armstrong was signed to the 53-man roster from the practice squad a few weeks ago.
