The Chargers are working on the former Chiefs wide receiver

The 0-5 Los Angeles Chargers their ship still can’t be righted after five weeks without a win in the 2026 NFL season, but they’re not waving the white flag either. They are still looking for help, including on offense.

According to Netflix’s Tom Pelissero, the Bolts worked with veteran wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster on Tuesday.

Smith-Schuster was considered one of the NFL’s most promising wide receivers early in his NFL career. The Pittsburgh Steelers he was selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, and he was a Pro Bowler in his second year in the pros.

However, Smith-Schuster hasn’t reached that level since, when he quit with the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots.

The Chargers are looking for a spark on offense, and while it’s hard to see Smith-Schuster as the magic pill that can cure the team’s offensive woes, he’s a healthy option the team can count on — if they sign him.

So far this season, the Chargers are averaging 16.8 points per game.

The 29-year-old Smith-Schuster signed a one-year, $1.3 million contract with the New York Giants in June but was among the team’s roster cuts in August.

Smith-Schuster won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs in 2023, leading all players in Super Bowl LVII with seven receptions for 53 receiving yards in a 38-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
