NFL predictions: Chargers face off against Broncos in Week 5

The Los Angeles Chargers face off against the Denver Broncos in Week 5 at SoFi Stadium hoping to get their first win of the season.

The Chargers dropped their first four games and became one of the more disappointing teams in the league. There’s no getting back to them with a statement win in Week 5 against the defending AFC West champions. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Chargers are underdogs by 3.5 points. Let’s take a look at some predictions for the game.

The Chargers’ offense has struggled out of the gate, managing no more than 16 points in any of their first three games. The team had its best offensive showing last week against the Seattle Seahawks, with 23 points, but two of those scores came late in the fourth quarter, in seemingly garbage time.

The offense will have to make a statement at home against a division rival, but the Broncos have one of the better defenses in the AFC. Given how they’ve performed this season, as well as how the Broncos have performed on offense, posting an average of 18.5 points per game, the under hit is highly likely.

FanDuel gives the Chargers 3.5 points to start the game. Given the fact that they haven’t won anything in their first four games, this isn’t surprising. The home underdogs are 9-13 this season, which suggests there is reason to not favor them against the Broncos.

That said, the Chargers are hungry for a win, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they did. We’re going to go ahead and take the Chargers despite them being 3.5-point dogs.

Prediction: Chargers +3.5

The Chargers desperately need a win, but nothing comes easy in the divisional matchup, especially against a team like the Broncos, who also need to make a push after starting the season 2-2.

I can see the game going either way, but there’s a very good chance it will come down to the final possession. Given where the Broncos and Chargers are, I’ll take Denver by a field goal.
