After the New York Jets snapped a three game losing streak last week with a tight 17 – 12 victory over the Cleveland Browns, the Jets squandered an opportunity to gain momentum when they lost this week to the New England Patriots 26 – 19.
This game is about missed opportunities. The Jets had chances to go up big on the Patriots early in the game, but they were stopped twice on fourth and short. Late in the game the Jets had a chance to take advantage of a Patriots offensive line decimated by injuries, but the Jets defense not only failed to dominate that beat up line, they folded the game at the line as the Patriots ran the ball down the Jets’ throat for a clock-chewing, game sealing scoring drive late in the fourth quarter drive. It was an embarrassing way to end a hard-fought Jets game. It was also a missed opportunity to get to .500 on the season and take over 2nd place in the AFC East.
The disappointing performance by the Jets left the Jets with a 2-4 record to start the season, in 3rd place in the AFC East. Now the Jets look to get back on the winning track when they return home to take on the Miami Dolphins in East Rutherford, New Jersey next Sunday. The Dolphins are coming off their bye week this week. They had a rough start to the season, going 0-5 in their first five games. The Dolphins’ offense has struggled mightily, scoring 13 or fewer points in four of their five games this season.
